Soweto Bicycle Tour
- About 4 hours
Join us for a cycling tour of the history of Soweto, Orlando West, built in 1945.
Full of photography opportunities and stops to capture great moments. You will get an idea about the people's lifestyle and culture.
The cycling tour will start in Killarney, an upcoming tourist destination in Soweto. We will talk first about how this township was created in 1904 and share the history of these neighbourhoods. We will ride to Mzimhlophe and visit the only former women’s hostel as a separate area. We continue to Mama Lillian Mgoyi's home, an anti-apartheid activist, then cycle to Hector Pietersen Museum where the Soweto uprising transpired which was one of the turning points of apartheid. You will then be introduced to the famous house of Nelson Mandela, where he lived until he was imprisoned for 27 years. We will also show you Arch bishop Desmond Tutu's house in the popular Vilakazi Street, and talk about his impact in the down fall of Apartheid. Time for LUNCH! You are going to taste the delicious local burger called "Kota" before cycling back to our starting point.
